The Isle of Bute was honoured by a visit to Rothesay on Sunday 16th July 2006 by the Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute, Kenneth MacKinnon Esq., RD., WS. The Deputy Lieutenant, Lyn Bulloch Esq. was also in attendance.

Mr MacKinnon performed two duties arising out of Bute's V-Day 60th Aninversary Commemorations in June 2005.

The first event, at Rothesay War Memorial, was the unveiling of a plaque marking the special non-denominational Memorial Service held there on 26th June 2005.

The Lord Lieutenant then proceeded to the Bute Museum. He presented the Trustees of the Museum with a framed personally signed message from His Royal Highness, The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, to the people of Bute on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of VE-Day. The message had been read out by the Lord Lieutenant at a Memorial Church Service held in Trinity Church, Rothesay, on Sunday 26th June 2005.
